Sri Lanka
- Average temperature in spring: 77°F (25°C).
Sri Lanka is one of the world’s best countries to visit in spring for several reasons. You can expect warm and dry weather and lower prices than the peak season. However, the wildlife-watching opportunities are arguably the biggest draw to Sri Lanka in spring.
Spring is one of the best times to spot whales in Sri Lanka. On a tour with Raja and the Whales, based in Mirissa, you can spot pilot whales, blue whales, dolphins, and more. Meanwhile, the drier weather makes spotting wildlife in Udawalawe National Park and Yala National Park easier.
The main attraction in both national parks is the beautiful Sri Lankan Elephant. I visited Udawalawe National Park on a safari tour. I saw elephants, crocodiles, jackals, and more.
Travel Tips
- Tissamaharama Town: If you’re heading to Yala National Park, stay in Tissamaharama. It’s just a short drive to the park, and you’ll find budget-friendly accommodation like New Cormorant Lake Resort & Yala Safari Place, which offers comfortable rooms with garden views. Book your safari early, as slots fill up quickly.
- Local Cuisine: For an authentic Sri Lankan meal, try The Lobster Pot in Mirissa. The seafood is fresh, and the curry dishes are packed with flavor. It’s popular, so booking a table for dinner is recommended.

The Netherlands might be much colder than Sri Lanka in spring, but that doesn’t mean it’s not one of the top countries to visit. Late March to mid-May is one of the best times to visit the Netherlands because the nation’s iconic tulip fields bloom. Meadows, parks, and gardens across the Netherlands come to life with vibrant displays of color.
The Bollenstreek region, often called the Dutch flower region, has been an icon for over 400 years. Leiden, Lisse, and Noordwijkerhout are three popular places where you can see millions of tulips in the fields in spring. You can also visit Keukenhof Tulip Gardens, a 79-acre (32-hectare) garden with over seven million bulbs.
Of course, you’ll also want to visit the capital, Amsterdam, home to famous attractions like the Anne Frank House and the Rijksmuseum.

Thailand

Thailand could find its way onto any list of the best countries in the world. However, we recommend visiting in spring because you can experience the Thai New Year. Also known as Songkran, Thai New Year (April 13th – April 15th) is an exciting time to be in Thailand, with the entire country coming together in celebrations.
For example, in Bangkok, you’ll find traditional ceremonies at temples like Wat Arun Ratchawararam and royal ceremonies at Sanam Luang. Alternatively, you can enjoy epic water fights and live music on Khao San Road.
Besides celebrating Songkran, Thailand has many exciting things to see and do, including visiting elephants at Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. This ethical sanctuary in Chiang Mai offers up-close and educational half-day experiences with the elephants.
Travel Tips
- Songkran Festival: Expect heavy crowds during Songkran, especially in Bangkok. If you want to participate in the water fights, be prepared with waterproof gear and a change of clothes.

India is an excellent country to visit in spring because flowers like the lotus bloom across the country, and the weather is more favorable for wildlife watching. I visited India in April and went on a tiger safari in Ranthambore National Park. I saw two tigers, jackals, sambar deer, and more.
Spring is also a good time to visit India because it’s part of the off-season. Therefore, you can expect fewer crowds and more affordable vacation packages. You’ll appreciate the smaller crowds when visiting iconic attractions like the Taj Mahal and Hawa Mahal.
