The United Kingdom might only have started hosting annual Christmas markets in the 1980s, but that doesn’t mean the best UK Christmas markets have little to offer. In fact, as someone from the UK, I can tell you now that we take our Christmas markets very seriously. Therefore, it’s time you planned a trip to the UK for Christmas.

From the UK’s best Christmas markets, you can expect traditional stalls, epic food and drink, bright lights, and winter wonderlands bursting at the seams with festive cheer. In my opinion, the Hay-on-Wye Christmas Fayre is the best UK Christmas market for a more laid-back atmosphere. You won’t have to battle through the crowds to get to the food stands. Prices are often more affordable than the larger Christmas markets, and the fayre has a more authentic feel. 

The Hay Christmas Fayre brings together over 100 traders in the center of Hay-on-Wye, a charming Welsh town famed for its quaint bookstores and beautiful architecture. You’ll find everything from handmade jewelry and paintings to unique Christmas gifts and cards at the market.

The market also features a food section, where you sample locally made foods like cheese, chocolates, cider, and wine. You’ll also find several food trucks here serving delicious food like roast dinner Yorkshire pudding wraps.

Truro Christmas Market, Truro

Truro’s Christmas market is set up in a beautiful setting around Truro Cathedral, offering festive vibes, picturesque architecture, and exciting Christmas events. The market features a diverse mix of local crafts, food, drinks, and unique Christmas presents. Beautifully decorated wooden cabins line Lemon Quay, and a 30-foot (9-meter) tall Christmas tree dominates proceedings.

Aside from the colorful Christmas decorations and a vast range of stalls, this is one of the UK’s best Christmas markets because there are so many activities and events to attend. For example, you can watch the Father Christmas Parade, listen to live music outside the cathedral, visit the giant snow globe, and try local cuisine. What’s not to like?

More importantly, you’ll find a delightful array of Christmas stalls selling handcrafted goods, luxurious artisan products, and tasty foods and beverages, such as specialty cheeses, bratwurst, and Glühwein, better known as mulled wine. This market also features live theater performances, live concerts, and various child-friendly attractions, including a vintage helter-skelter. Young children can also meet the real-life Santa Claus in his grotto.

In other words, the Cardiff Christmas Market is the perfect day out. 

You’ll spend most of your time sipping mulled wine, buying locally made handicrafts, eating delicious food, and having fun in the Winter Wonderland. In the Winter Wonderland, you’ll find an ice skating rink, a Ferris wheel, an Alpine bar, and an ice bar. There are also fairground games to play, and DJs regularly perform sets. This is a fantastic place to spend a festive evening with your family and friends.
