Wine tasting is one of Santa Barbara’s top things to experience. Santa Barbara County has six official AVAs or American Viticultural Areas. It was also the filming location for Sideways, the infamous movie about wine and the many faults with Merlot.

Aside from single-handedly forcing grape growers to rip out their merlot for pinot noir, this region has put a mark on global wine. Take a wine tour of the Santa Ynez Valley and explore its world-renowned vineyards.

In town, head to the Funk Zone. Visit staples such as Skyenna and Sunstone Winery. Don’t miss out on the boutique wineries and wine bars, such as Lo-Fi Wines, in nearby Los Alamos.

Travel Tips

  • Visit During Off-Peak Hours: Try visiting wineries during weekday afternoons.
  • Explore the Urban Wine Trail: This wine trail in downtown Santa Barbara features several tasting rooms within walking distance.
