There is no better way to beat the winter blues than a light show in Belgium! This list will be updated on a yearly basis.

1. Lightopia

2. Lanterna Magica

Lanterna Magica is organized for the second time this year. It is a walk around an enchanted forest with dragons and magicians.

3. Floridylle

This event had very good reviews last year from members of our group! This lightshow is a good option, if you are staying in Belgium for the holidays, otherwise it is difficult to attend

4. Harry Potter: A Forbidden Experience

This lightshow is one of the most expensive ones in Belgium. It has received good reviews in the group with the caveat that the kid should be into Harry Potter to really enjoy it

5. Giant bugs and those that eat them

This light show takes place at Planckendael zoo. The installations are there even during the day, so you can see them (not illuminated) during a visit to the zoo

6. Magnetic Flow

Magnetic Flow is an indoor immersive experience where art meets technology. There are evening sessions (16+ years old) with live music

7. Winter Glow

Winter Glow in Bruges is a free light festival with several locations around the city. You can visit the light festival and then enjoy ice skating and a hot chocolate at the Christmas market in Bruges (great way to see Bruges, one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium)

8. Nature Illuminated

Walk around the Groot-Bijgaarden castle and enjoy the light show Nature Illuminated in Belgium

9. Bright Festival

Light show around Brussels to lighten up our winter! This is a free event with light installations at three main places: Royal Quarter, European Quarter and Sainte-Marie/Lehon Quarter to Avenue Louis Bertrand in Schaerbeek

10. Winter Light Bokrijk

Winter Light offers light and fire installations, craft demonstrations and more.

This light show takes place at the Open Air Museum in Bokrijk. The museum itself and the huge playground next to it are a great reason to visit Bokrijk. Just a few minutes away in the same provincial domain you can find Cycling through water, one of the nicest cycling paths in Belgium

11. Grote Schijn

Grote Schijn (Big Shine in Dutch) takes place in Rivierenhof, a provincial domain in Antwerp

Bonus:
Spirit of the North – outdoor light installations (free)

Right outside Spirit of the North you can find some outdoor illuminated fairy tale light installations!

This is not a full light show as the others, there are just some light installations at a small square. It would take about 5-10 minutes to play with the interactive light installation and take a few photos. It is so close to Grand Place, that it makes for a fun quick stop before heading to the Christmas market in Brussels
