You can purchase tickets separately for the funicular that takes you to the viewpoint. The funicular ride itself is spectacular. Rising 1,066 vertical feet (325 vertical meters), it offers fantastic views of Hallstatt’s scenery. However, the views do not match the 360° panoramic views atop the 1,181-foot (360-meter) high skywalk of the village, the lake and the surrounding mountains.

Visit the Catholic Parish Church of Hallstatt

Also known as the “Bone House,” the charnel house is in St. Michael’s Chapel. The chapel dates back to the 12th century and is home to over 600 painted skulls. Many skulls were decorated in the 18th century, but some were painted in the 20th century.

Painting skulls has been a traditional custom in the Eastern Alpine region since the 18th century. Quite remarkably, the collection of skulls inside Hallstatt Charnel House is claimed to be the world’s largest.

It’s a beautiful place to take photographs, escape the busier photography spots, and enjoy Hallstatt’s natural beauty. Putting “Hallstätter Wasserfall” into Google Maps will lead you to a small bridge above the falls. You can park in the tunnel parking lot, which is free for 90 minutes.

This bridge offers the best views of the falls and picturesque views of Lake Hallstatt. You can also view the waterfall from a car park on the main road, but the views aren’t as impressive.
