In the fall, follow the sun to the Greek island of Crete. Even the sea is still warm at this time of year, after months of the water being heated by the sun.

As autumn progresses, cooler temperatures make it time to head for the east, where you can hike to Zakros Gorge via what’s left of the magnificent Minoan Palace of Zakros. To avoid the crowds at the beaches, the south and west coasts are less developed yet home to delightful local tavernas.
