The 10 Best Countries for Expats According to a New Survey

An impressive 82% of expats in Panama are satisfied with their lives, and Indonesia saw a dramatic rise to 3rd place from 13th the previous year, thanks to improved working conditions. According to InterNations’ Expat Insider survey, certain countries make settling in far easier than others. 

People often say the grass is greener on the other side, and moving to live and work in a different country can be an excellent opportunity to start anew. However, it can also be overwhelming, with challenges like finding a new job and moving into a new home.

Fortunately, some countries worldwide make moving out and settling down easier than others. InterNations recently released a report highlighting the best countries for living abroad based on factors like quality of life, personal finance, ease of settling in, and expat essentials.

Panama tops the list as the best country for living abroad in 2024, moving up from 3rd place in 2023. The Internations survey finds that 82% of expats in Panama are happy with their lives, which is well above the national average of 68%.

Expats in Panama can find apartments starting at $712 per month and enjoy reliable healthcare systems. Financial stability is another strong point; nearly 74% of expats are happy with their financial situation, while 88% believe their disposable income is more than enough to lead a comfortable life.

The country also has a friendly population, with 86% of respondents praising the general friendliness of the locals. Job market improvements have pushed Mexico to 8th place in the Working Abroad Index.
