White Bay, The Bahamas

Pay a local to take you to the pristine white sandbar of White Bay. The sand is dazzlingly pale, and it’s also often deserted due to the effort of getting there. White Bay lurks off Great Exuma’s southwestern coast. It boasts calm, shallow water that’s always warm, thanks to the sunny Caribbean climate.

La Sagesse, Grenada

La Sagesse offers more than golden sands, swaying palms, clear blue waters, and a backdrop of emerald-green hills. You’ll also find a beautiful, tropical garden here, which is ideal when you want to stretch your legs. La Sagesse isn’t hard to get to, either, being just a short stroll from the main road.

Vessup Bay, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

Offering superb views across to neighboring St. John, Vessup Bay is one of Red Hook’s best-kept secrets. The palm-lined stretch of white sand lies conveniently close to the town’s amenities, yet you should get a fair-sized patch all to yourself.

Rendezvous Bay, Antigua

Antigua is blessed with 365 beaches: one for each day of the year. This means that one requires a half-hour walk to reach it, which remains about as off-the-radar as you can reasonably expect. Once you’re there, expect a perfect crescent of white sand lapped by ombre turquoise waters – and very few people.

Point of Sand, Little Cayman, Cayman Islands

Point of Sand comprises a section of beach shaped like a shark’s fin. The sand seamlessly blends into the grassy area backing the beach, as well as the azure ocean. Little Cayman is just over half an hour’s flight from the Cayman’s main airport.

Mudjin Harbour, Middle Caicos, Turks and Caicos

Take a local boat out to Middle Caicos, and you can visit a sandbar with bone-white sand, blue sky, and aqua-blue water. Limestone cliffs also provide a pleasing contrast. This one’s the stuff that dreams – and picture postcards – are made of.

17 Mile Beach, Barbuda

This one really does live up to its name: you can indeed expect 17 miles of powdery white sands. So stroll along a little until you find an untouched stretch to call your own. Even on an uncrowded island, this one’s pretty secluded.

Playa La Vacama, Dominican Republic

Playa La Vacama is just one of a string of hidden gems that includes Playa del Muerte, Esmeralda, and Nisibon. The beautiful beach can be found on the Costa del Coco; as you might expect, it’s lined with coconut palms. There’s little else except white sand, azure water, and a path connecting Playa La Vacama to other local beaches.

Anse Fond Banane, Martinique

Anse Fond Banane translates as Banana Bottom Beach. It’s situated on Martinique’s southern coast and has a grill shack serving freshly-prepared fare. Lots of palm trees provide shade, which is useful for comfort when the Caribbean weather is a little too sultry.

Paradise Beach, Grenada

If you don’t like your beaches to be too deserted, you’ll love Paradise Beach in Carriacou, a small island close to Grenada. It has a craft shop for picking up unique souvenirs and a few little beach bars. Pink sands and azure waters await, and you can also hop over to deserted Sandy Island from here, via a local water taxi.

Boca Grandi, Aruba

Not everyone’s idea of beach life is about flopping down on the sand to sunbathe, or even taking a dip in the Caribbean Sea. If you’d like to try kite surfing – or even settle down to watch others doing so – head for Boca Grandi in Aruba. It’s also a peaceful spot, with a perfect sweep of pristine white sand.

Andicuri Beach, Aruba

Carefully concealed within Aruba’s Arikok National Park is Andicuri Beach. Thanks to the powerful waves crashing against ivory sands and rugged rock formations, it has a wild, untamed feel. This part of the island also has a dry, desert-like vibe.
