The spectacular Walzin castle and a 4.7 km hike passing by the Lesse river
Walzin castle
-Breathtaking view, the castle is built on rocks
-You cannot visit the castle unfortunately
-The castle was built in the 13th century and was burned down by the French army in 1554
-It has been restored many times, the last was in 1930-1932
-The roads to reach the start of the hike are narrow and with turns
-Leave the car at the small parking and take the path. There is a bridge to cross the river in order to reach the viewing point of the castle
-In the summer you can do kayaking in the Lesse and see the Walzin castle from the river. Read our post on Dinant for more details here
Practical tips
-The hike is not stroller friendly, not wheelchair friendly
-However, you can still reach the viewing point with a stroller, if you only want to see the castle and skip the hike
-Depending on the weather, the trails can be very muddy, so wear appropriate shoes
-The hike might not be accessible due to hunting. You can call at 082/67.68.90 or check here:
http://www.dinant.be/services/administration/environnement/bois,-chasse-et-peche
-Dogs allowed on a leash
-The hike starts at a small parking, so you can leave the car there
-We found out when we got there that a part of the hike is on private land, but there are signposted trails passing through that land and there are signs for hiking there as well
