Not all underwater adventures across the globe take place in the ocean. Some can take place inland, too, like cave diving in Mexico’s cenotes. Cenotes are naturally formed sinkholes that form when a cave ceiling collapses. These sinkholes can be found all over the Yucatan Peninsula in the southeast of the country, and they’ve become a big hit with cave divers.

Some of the most fascinating cenotes that offer cave diving include Angelita, Casa, and Dos Ojos. The former is home to Quintana Roo’s deepest cave and a uniquely shaped cave called the Temple of Doom. Cenote diving is an extreme activity, so you should be an experienced diver or travel with a tour group. This underwater world is cold, dark, and vast.
