Signal de Botrange is the highest point in Benelux and the starting point of many hikes and cross-country ski trails. There is a restaurant there and you can rent sleds and skis too (for cross-country skiing, it is flat). If there is snow in Belgium, then there’s 100% snow at Signal de Botrange! Signal de Botrange is in the Hautes Fagnes
Mont Rigi is great for a hike and building a snowman in winter. It is flat, thus you cannot sled. It is in Hautes Fagnes
Baraque Michel is a beautiful piece of nature, where many hiking and cross-skiing trails start. It is flat, so you cannot sled or ski, but there are several people happily building a snowman. This is in the Hautes Fagnes
At Maison du Parc-Botrange there is a restaurant and a nice playground outdoors, as well as a small museum with temporary nature-themed exhibitions. The museum is kids-oriented and pretty small, perfect for a short break from spending the day in the snow! This is also in Hautes Fagnes

At Maison du Parc-Botrange there is a restaurant and a nice playground, and also a small museum with nature-themed exhibitions. The museum is kids-oriented and pretty small, perfect for a short break from spending the day in the snow! This is one of the most kids-friendly spots in Hautes Fagnes. Weisser Stein Ski Resort is a great place for family fun in the snow with a great slope for skiing and sledding, a small playground, a restaurant, and a forest to enjoy nature even more. Yes, this is in Germany, but it is literally a few meters away from the border with Belgium!

Le Monty ski resort is good for sledding with gentle and more adventurous slopes. The big slope is quite steep, which our kid loved, but it might be a bit scary depending on the kid

The following places are great for kids and you can either build a snowman there, enjoy a hike or just take in the winter nature. Most of these are not as well-known as Hautes Fagnes, so they are not as crowded
St Hubert Monastery is a great place to enjoy the snow with younger kids. There is a tiny tiny slope right outside the monastery that’s great for very young kids

St Hubert airport (not used as an airport anymore) has a cross-country ski piste and you can have a relaxing walk around the forest there

If you go to St Hubert, there is also a wildlife park you can visit

Promenade des Celtes is a 2.9km walk suitable for families. There are educational panels, a playground, and a labyrinth

Libramont is relatively easy to reach from Brussels by train
Bois de Bèrnihè is a beautiful forest where you can enjoy the winter nature
Samrée has a cross-country ski piste and lots of room to build a snowman
At domain Berinzenne there is a forest, lake, barbecue and Museum of Forest and Water. This is very close to Spa Thier des Rexhons
Bois Jacques is known for its foxholes from WW2
Bois de la Paix is a tribute to WW2 veterans
The Bastogne War Museum is focused on WWII, especially the Battle of the Bulge
A hike to the sources of river Aisne and beautiful forest. This is a less known spot near the popular Baraque de Fraiture
Sart de Beaufils is a less known spot in the forest near the more popular Baraque de Fariture
Cross-country skiing
There are several trails for cross-country skiing in Belgium. Additionally, you can also go with the kids to enjoy the snow and nature
Tip
There are trails for multiple uses, such as cross-country skiing and hiking, and there are trails that are exclusively for cross-country skiing – do not walk on exclusive cross-country ski trails!
