Founded in 1733 on the southeast coast of Georgia, Savannah became the South’s first planned city and remains one of its most prominent. It draws over 14 million visitors annually Here, you can see 18th-century architecture and Civil War monuments, enjoy a booming food scene and nightlife, and rest in iconic hotels like The Marshall House, where you may even see a ghost or two.

Visit Its Historical Sites
Many historical sites in this small city are worth exploring, like the former home of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girls Scouts of America. The informative Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Museum tour takes about 45 minutes. This is a good place to cool off from the heat on a summer day in the center of Savannah.
Visit the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters to learn about the city’s dark history before the Civil War. Then, walk amongst the historical buildings in the Savannah Historic District.
Outside the city, drive to see the Old Fort Jackson, one of the oldest standing forts in the South. Then, witness Civil War history at Fort Pulaski National Monument.

Go on Ghost Tours
Savanahh’s ghost tours are a once-in-a-lifetime experience you can’t miss! You can book a ghost tour in several haunted locations throughout the year, like the popular tour on the city trolleybus.
Start at the Old Sorrel-Weed House Museum, one of the most paranormal places in the US. Then, for a frighteningly good time, check out the haunted pubs of E River St.
For the ultimate overnight experience, try staying at the Marshall House. This historical four-star hotel is one of the most haunted places in the US.

Experience the City’s Art Scene
Savanah’s art scene is one of the most vivid and inspiring in the South. From classic painters to modern muralists, this coastal city has endless talent.
Visit Telfair Museum, the oldest public art museum in the South. It is spread out between three world-class museums and features world-famous exhibits and impressive fine art.

Shopping may be a given when you visit a new place, but Savanah is like nowhere else. You’ll find one of the richest collections of antique collectibles and clothes in the country. Hop into antique stores and search for unique collectibles and valuable finds.
Walk along Broughton Street and Bull Street and enjoy hundreds of boutiques. You’ll find locally made products, art, and clothing you can’t find anywhere else.

Enjoy the Parks
Savannah’s parks are truly special, whether it’s their sculptures, landscaping, or people-watching. No matter which green space you visit, there’s something exciting to discover.
The most famous park is Forsyth Park. This iconic 30-acre space spreads out over the Historic District. It was built in 1840 and is still one of Savannah’s most popular meeting points.
After seeing Forsyth Park, don’t miss local hangouts, including Whitefield Square and Chippewa Square. This is where the famous bench scene of Forrest Gump was filmed.

Savannah may be next to the river, but it’s not far from the Atlantic Ocean’s stunning beaches. The off-shore islands are under an hour’s drive from the city.
For the best beach destination, visit Tybee Island. This laid-back island has miles of white sand beaches and hidden coves.
You can rent kayaks and explore the creeks and swamps surrounding the island. If you have time, try deep-sea fishing before spending the evening admiring the beautiful ocean. Even in the middle of winter, Savannah’s beaches offer warm water and plenty of adventures.
