However, with so much popularity comes high prices, large crowds, and, unfortunately, some inauthentic experiences.

As a Greek, I’ve visited Santorini numerous times and adore it. However, I’ve also explored the following islands and highly recommend them as well. The scenery and experiences of these islands will blow your mind away without the crowds or the hefty price tag.

Lefkada is the closest of the Ionian islands to the western side of the Greek mainland. A bridge connects the island to the mainland, making it accessible by bus or car. However, its popularity is not just based on its easy accessibility and proximity to the mainland. Lefkada is home to stunning beaches, turquoise water, museums, charming mountain villages, and a unique laid-back charm. No wonder it has been nicknamed the “Caribbean of Greece.”

Porto Katsiki, Egremni, and Kathsima are some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. Whether relaxing or getting active, you will find your slice of tropical heaven on these Lefkada beaches.

Other than beaches, explore the Venetian architecture in Lefkada Town, discover charming seafront villages like Agios Nikitas, and get a dose of history at the 14th-century Agia Mavra Fort and the many historic churches on the island.

Mykonos

At the center of the Cyclades lies Mykonos, the island famous for its vibrant nightlife and cosmopolitan ambiance.

When visiting in summer, explore the city’s rich nightlife at Cavo Paradiso, 180° Sunset Bar, and Kastro’s. However, the island is not just about partying and partying. When visiting, you can explore its beaches, such as Paradise, Super Paradise, and Psarou.

If you are looking to visit one of the most unique andbeautiful beaches in the world, head to Zakynthos just to get a slice of Navagio. But it wouldn’t be just if you didn’t explore Zakynthos’s other beaches like Laganas, Banana, Kamalaki, Agios Nikolaos, and Agios Sostis.

You should also visit the impressive Blue Caves of Zakynthos, spot the endangered sea turtle species Caretta Caretta at Laganas Bay, admire the stunning architecture of Zakynthos town, and visit the Solomon Museum or Venetian Castle.

Paros

When visiting Paros, you can enjoy traditional Cycladic architecture, pristine sandy beaches, and clear waters.

You can swim at Kolymbithres Beach, stroll along the streets of the Cycladic gem of Naoussa, explore the eroded rocky coves of Marcello Beach, or get active with water sports at Santa Maria Beach.

Corfu

Milos

On the southernmost part of the Cyclades islands lies one of Greece’s volcanic Islands, Milos. Due to its volcanic origin, Milos boasts a magnificent landscape and a coastline with over 40 beaches.

Rhodes

You will love how seamlessly Rhodes combines unique architecture and cosmopolitan vibes. The “Knights Island” is home to charming villages, picturesque beaches, and magnificent natural landscapes.

Crete is the biggest of the Greek Islands and one of the biggest in the Mediterranean. And as you would have imagined, with its size, Crete is an island of many offerings. Whether you are into history, architecture, nature, relaxed sightseeing, or active exploration, you will not regret booking that trip to Crete.

Nature lovers will love their time in Vai, the only palm forest in Europe. With over 5,000 palm trees, a stunning golden beach, turquoise blue waters, and views of hills, Vai is a location that is a dream come true for any outdoor enthusiast.

Samaria Gorge offers fantastic hiking and sightseeing opportunities. It is a great spot for hikers and beach lovers looking to spend a day away from the Crete beaches.

Speaking of beaches, Crete is home to the pink Elafonisi Beach, which is unrealistically beautiful. Other gorgeous Crete beaches include Balos Beach, Falassarna, Agioi Apostoloi, Loutraki, and Agia Marina Beach.

Skiathos

There is so much to do in Naxos. For instance, you can catch the sunset in Portara, swim on top-rated beaches like Plaka, Aliko, Sahara (Limanakia), and Agios Prokopios; or stroll around the history-soaked Chora Town.

If you are into landmarks, ensure to swing by Demeter temple, the monastery of Fotodotis, Kouros of Melanes, Panagia Drossiani church, and Kalamitsia Monastery.

Halki village is an excellent spot for anyone who would like to explore Greek villages. Come ready to pose with the neoclassical architectural buildings, small paved alleys, bougainvillea and jasmine trees, and olive groves. Don’t be shocked to find small crowds of Instagrammers and photographers, as this little gem is no longer a secret.

Hydra

If you are into quaint destinations, then you will live to remember your trip to Hydra. Hydra is a car-free destination, which has largely contributed to its enviable serenity.

Motorbikes and bicycles are also not allowed in Hydra Town. However, you can explore the labyrinth alleys on foot or with mules.

When in Hydra, explore the stunning coastal settlements of Vlichos and Mandraki, sunbathe on the island’s beaches like Hydronetta and Spilia, hike Mount Eros, or go horseback riding to the monasteries.

Kefalonia

Kefalonia has exotic beaches, stunning villages, turquoise waters, mysterious caves, and lush landscapes. Visiting it can be a much-deserved escape to nature.

Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, is a great place to explore Venetian architecture and the island’s nightlife.
