We chose each spot because it’s not just beautiful but also tells a story. The places we’re going to share with you mean a lot to me personally. I’m Greek and have been visiting the islands for many years, so these are my favorite spots.

Oia, located on the island of Santorini, is a beautiful place and a must-see destination in Greece. This village is famous for its stunning sunsets, whitewashed houses, and breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.

The best time to visit Oia, in my opinion, is between September and early October. During these months, the island is less crowded, and the weather is perfect—not too hot, not too cold. May is also a good time to go, but keep in mind that the sea will still be a bit chilly if you’re thinking about swimming.

Oia also has a great market area where you can stroll around. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops selling souvenirs. However, prices in Oia tend to be higher compared to other parts of Santorini. Finding a spot in a cafe or a restaurant with a sea view can be quite challenging, especially during peak hours.

Shipwreck Beach, Zakynthos

Shipwreck Beach, also known as Navagio Beach, is on the island of Zakynthos. It’s a stunning spot that looks even more amazing in real life than in pictures. It’s famous for its towering cliffs and the old shipwreck that lies on its white sandy beach.

In 2023, it was decided that people shouldn’t go to the beach because it can be dangerous with rocks falling. This might sound disappointing, but it’s actually a good thing for taking photos. With no people walking around the shipwreck, you can get much better pictures. I remember when I visited before the ban, the beach was always packed, and it was tough to see its true beauty.

You can enjoy the best views by climbing up to the viewpoint above the beach. The hike up there is definitely worth it. From the top, you can see everything—the bright blue water, the high cliffs, and the shipwreck below—all without any crowds.

Little Venice, Mykonos

Little Venice in Mykonos is one of the island’s most iconic spots. It is next to the famous Windmills. At the edge of Alefkandra Bay, this promenade is lined with bustling bars and restaurants.

The view from Little Venice is spectacular. You’ll quickly see why it’s named after the famous city in Italy. The houses built right on the edge of the rocks, and the narrow alleys create a scene reminiscent of Venice. The sea lapping at the foundations of the buildings is a picturesque setting for photos.

Little Venice is always lively, thanks to its popular location and nearby attractions. Yet, if you’re an early riser, mornings give you and your camera a chance to capture the beauty without the crowds.

When visiting, don’t miss the opportunity to grab a table at one of the local restaurants. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a meal or a drink while taking in the stunning landscape.

Melissani Cave, Kefalonia

Melissani Cave on Kefalonia is a must-visit natural wonder. It is famous for its stunning blue waters and fascinating geological formations. The best time to visit the cave is between 11 am and 2 pm. This is when the sunlight illuminates the cave’s pool, turning it a deep sapphire blue. If you arrive at high noon, the entire pool glows with an intense blue.

Be aware that the car park can get very crowded around these times, so planning ahead is wise. If you’re starting from the port terminal, consider taking a 2.2km bike ride to the cave. This scenic route takes you past patisseries, where you can grab a treat, markets, and souvenir shops. You’ll enjoy the peaceful environment, with the sounds of birds.

The entrance fee to Melissani Cave includes access to the cave and a boat ride on the lake. After a short but steep walk down to the lake, friendly staff will greet you and take you on a boat tour. The tour inside the cave lasts only about 15 minutes. It’s packed with views of stalactites and stalagmites, and the cave’s famous deep blue waters.

You can buy a dual ticket that also grants you entry to another cave a few kilometers away. It is good value if you’re interested in exploring more of the area’s natural beauty.

Porto Katsiki, Lefkada

Porto Katsiki on the island of Lefkada is known as one of the best beaches not just in Greece, but around the world. I’ve been to many beautiful beaches worldwide, and Porto Katsiki definitely stands out!

This beach has a stunning setting with high cliffs and crystal-clear blue waters. Getting there is a bit of an adventure, though. The road is narrow and windy, which requires some patience to navigate.

Once you arrive, you’ll find the beach worth the journey. Remember to bring a beach umbrella if you can, as there isn’t much natural shade available. There are canteens at the top where you can grab a bite to eat or order a refreshing drink.

To get to the beach, you’ll need to descend 99 steps. It’s a bit of a workout, but once you reach the bottom, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most beautiful blue waters in Greece. To get a panoramic photo of the white cliff and the azure waters, walk towards the bridge on the right side of the beach.

Sarakiniko Beach, Milos

Sarakiniko Beach on Milos is an incredible place that looks more like the moon than a typical beach. Smooth, bright white volcanic rocks form cliffs and caves along the sea. These white rocks contrast with the deep blue of the Aegean Sea, creating a stunning photo op.

Although Sarakiniko can get crowded, focus on enjoying the unique landscape. Many visitors love the thrill of cliff-jumping into the clear, calm waters below. The beach area isn’t sandy but has fascinating rock formations.

Keep in mind that the white rocks can get very hot on sunny days, and there’s little natural shade available. Try to arrive early to claim a spot in one of the shaded areas or bring an umbrella.

Lindos, Rhodes

Lindos is a picturesque village on the island of Rhodes. The village is known for the ancient Acropolis of Lindos, perched high on a hill. You can climb to this historic site to explore old ruins like the Temple of Athena Lindia, dating back to the 4th century BC. The climb might be challenging, but the views of the sea and village below are worth the effort.

The village streets in Lindos are lined with whitewashed houses. These narrow lanes are filled with little shops selling handmade crafts, delicious Greek treats, and cafes and restaurants where you can try traditional Greek dishes.

Inviting beaches like St. Paul’s Bay are just a short distance from the village center. This spot is perfect for swimming and sunbathing next to the crystal-clear water.

Myrtos Beach, Kefalonia

Myrtos Beach on the island of Kefalonia is famous for its vast stretch of white sand and bright blue water. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches on the Greek islands. It is well-organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas available for visitors.

If you plan to go to Myrtos Beach, try getting there early in the morning. The parking lot can get full quickly because many people want to visit this popular spot. Arriving early will help you find a good parking space and give you more time to enjoy the beach.

Don’t forget to check out the cool cave at the end of the beach. It’s a fun place to explore, take photos, or just escape from the sun for a little while. Whether you want to swim, sunbathe, or relax, Myrtos Beach is a great place to spend the day.

Corfu Old Town, Corfu

Corfu Old Town is a fascinating place that mixes history with charming architecture. Because of its historical importance, this area is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is influenced by Venice, France, and Britain, with colorful buildings and old fortresses.

Walking through the Old Town is like stepping back in time. The narrow streets twist and turn and many small shops have handmade items and cozy places to eat. One of the highlights is the Liston, an arcade lined with cafes and shops. The famous Rue de Rivoli in Paris inspires it.

The Old Town of Corfu is full of life. You can hear music from street performers and feel the energy of people going about their day. It’s a great place to learn about Greek culture, take beautiful photos, and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Symi Harbor, Symi

Symi Harbor is a beautiful and colorful spot on the island of Symi, just a short boat ride away from Rhodes. It makes for an easy and exciting day trip. The harbor is lined with houses painted in soft, pastel colors.

The local people in Symi Harbor are very friendly and welcoming, adding to the charm of the place. As you stroll along the waterfront, you can stop at the cafes bustling with activity. There are also several seafood restaurants.

Balos, Crete

Balos Lagoon on the island of Crete is a paradise for Instagrammers – but getting there is an adventure.

You drive a narrow dirt road that can be quite challenging. After parking your car, you’re faced with a 20-30 minute walk to reach the lagoon. The hike, though manageable even in flip-flops, can be tough under the blazing sun.

Yet, the trek adds to the sense of discovery as you finally enjoy the stunning view of Balos. The effort to reach Balos also provides many picturesque moments along the way. The lagoon is a surreal mix of turquoise and deep blue waters against dramatic cliffs and pinkish sands.

Naoussa, Paros

One of the most Instagrammable spots on the Greek island of Paros is the quaint village of Naoussa. Known for its picturesque port, Naoussa epitomizes the charm of the Cycladic islands.

The village streets are lined with white-washed houses and bougainvillea. At the waterfront, you will find cute cafes and traditional tavernas.
