We went to the fire brigade and police open day in Overijse and it was a great experience for the kids.

Overijse Fire Brigade & Police Open Day
In Overijse both the fire brigade and the police have their open day on the same day. They are also very close to each other, so it’s a good idea to do both!
At the fire station you will find the fire engines and a jumping castles waiting for you

There are more vehicles indoors and you can ask the firefighters details about everything! Kids can also sit at the driver’s seat 🙂
There are also games for kids, like a game for younger kids where they learn about fire fighting (in Dutch) and an escape room with smoke for the older ones
There are demonstrations throughout the day. We saw firemen evacuating someone using a fire engine and extending its ladder…
…and we saw an evacuation where they brought someone from the rooftop to the ground floor using just rope
Then we headed to the police station, where we got a ride with a police van!
There was also a jumping castle and several other police themed games for kids
All in all it was a fun day out!

Practical stuff
*Open: the open days are once a year and they are on different dates for every police station/fire brigade. Most seem to happen in September, although there are a few in spring. Keep an eye on the list belo for the new dates!
*Cost: free entrance
*Stroller friendly, wheelchair friendly
*There are drinks and burgers at the fire station in Overijse
*Dogs are allowed
*Parking: you will need to find a parking place in the streets nearby
*Keep in mind that these events attract many families and there might be queues for a ride!
